The following hotel walks are all loop walks starting and finishing at the hotel so you don't need to move your car.

The Cornamuckla Walk 60-75 mins.
Walk down the drive and turn right at hotel entrance. Turn right again at Ballindoon cross roads, and then on past the village water pump, the provision of which was a major achievement back in the early 1950’s, and provided much needed water for many years.
Continue to Killadoon crossroads, and turn right in the direction of Lough Bo and Lough Nasool (signposted).
Proceed then up the steep hill until you see a road to the right with “Cornamuckla” written in stone. Take this road.
The next two miles are along a very quiet boreen but the views as you emerge over Lough Arrow are truly stunning. At the end of this road turn right and your heading back to Cromleach.

Lough Arrow Trail2 hours
Walk down the drive and turn left at hotel entrance. Continue for approx. 2 miles. Just past Highwood Church turn right and down a steep hill. At the end of this road turn right and turn right again as you approach Lough Arrow. (After approx. 1 mile you come to a crossroads. To your left is the Annaghloy peninsula. If you feel like making your walk longer you may take this very nice quiet road to it’s end which is approx. 1 mile.)
For the next 2 miles you are skirting the shores of Lough Arrow with lovely views from time to time. You pass Ballindoon Abbey on the left, easily accessible through the farm gate. Ballindoon Abbey was home to the Dominican Order for many years and dates back to the earliest years of the 16th century. It has a chequered and interesting history which cannot be encompassed in these notes, but there are many publications which can better tell the story. For this walk today you can now continue on to Ballindoon crossroads and turn right for the final climb to Cromleach. |

The Lough Nasool Way Approx. 3 hours
Walk down the drive and turn right at hotel entrance. Right again then at Ballindoon cross roads, and on past the village water pump, the provision of which was a major achievement back in the early 1950’s, and provided much needed water for many years.
Proceed to Killadoon crossroads, and turn right in the direction of Lough Bo and Lough Nasool (signposted). Continue past the Cornamuckla sign and soon you’ll see Lough Nasool on your right. If you wish to see Lough Bo carry on past the crossroads for a few hundred meters (then double back) otherwise take a right around Lough Nasool. Reputedly, it was on this site that Balor of the evil eye was slain as he retreated from the battle of Moytura. According to the legend, his evil eye burned a hole in the ground which then filled with water. The waters of Lough Nasool (Lake of the Eye) is said to disappear approximately every 30 years when Balor opens his eye absorbing all the water!!
The next 2 miles are along a quiet country road at the end of which you turn right in the direction of Highwood. Turn right again and pass Highwood Church on you left. Follow the road for about 2 miles to find yourself back at Cromleach. |

The Moytura Stroll 75 - 90 Mins.
Walk down the drive and turn left at hotel entrance. Continue for approx. 2 miles. Just after a picnic area take a left past a new brick house on your right. A little further on and on your right are the remains of a Court Tomb accessed through a small iron gate. Continue to the end of this road. You now have to walk around the water reservoir and through the fields. Follow the walking signs (not so easy to see) you are now walking on the Moytura plateau the site of the 2nd battle of Moytura between the Fir Bolgs and the Tuatha de Dannan. At the highest point you will see the remains of a court tomb – Sí Luighe the seat of Louis .
From here you have a stunning 360degree view - Lough Arrow & the Bricklieve Mountains to the South and the Geevagh valley and the Arigna mountains to the North.
You now descend to emerge on the boreen (part of the Cornamuckla walk) turn left and at the end of this road turn right and back to Cromleach. |
