| The Romantic Labby Walk
Located on the grounds of Cromleach Lodge, this is a wonderfully romantic 20-30 min. stroll through the woods. Passing the Labby Rock (where you can sit and listen to the silence) and a Fairy Ring Fort along the way, and emerging to a spectacular panorama over Lough Arrow, the Bricklieve Mountains and a far as Queen Maeve's Grave on Knocknarea.
Here a seat intended for walkers to take in the magnificient view has now become known as the love seat where very important questions have been asked!!
The Labby Rock is a unique Portal Dolmen, with a 70 tonne capstone, built during the Neolithic Period (about 4,000-2,500 BC). In Irish Mythology it is associated with the burial place of Nuada of the Silver Arm, a King of the Tuatha de Danann who was killed by Balor of the Evil Eye, leader of the Fomorians, during the battle of Moytura.
Local folklore says it's name is from the Gaelic word for bed - the bed of Diarmaid & Grainne, where this romantic couple spent a night while on the run from the Fianna, giving this bed magical powers of fertility to any couple spending a night under it's massive capstone.
The Labby Rock the second largest Dolmen (Cromleach) in Ireland and is quite unique in that it is located in a deep valley, capped with vegetation including heather - it is referred to as the "Clown of the Cromleachs".
This very romantic walk is an experience not to be missed.
