Treacle and Ginger Bread

Treacle & Ginger Bread
(Makes 1 x 1lb Loaf)
 
4oz Self Raising Flour
4oz Wholemeal Flour
Pinch of Salt
½ Teaspoon Baking Powder
½ Teaspoon Ground Ginger
2oz Brown Sugar
2oz Flora Margarine
1 Egg
1 fl.oz Treacle
¼ Pint Buttermilk
 
Preheat Oven to 180°C
Sieve the Self Raising Flour, Baking Powder & Ground Ginger in a bowl
Add in the remaining dry ingredients & mix
Rub in the Margarine until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs
In a separate bowl, combine the Buttermilk, Treacle & Egg
Pour this liquid into the dry ingredients
Combine well & Pour into a greased 1lb loaf tin
Bake for 45 Minutes at the above temperature
Bake for an extra 10 minutes when the bread is turned out on its side.
Cool on a wire tray
